Today marks the 108th anniversary of the 1915 #ArmenianGenocide during which over 1.5 million Armenians were systematically exterminated. It was a blueprint for the Holocaust.
I happen to be a descendant of both the Armenian Genocide and the Holocaust.
Such history is a reminder of the atrocities that humans are capable of committing against each other. It's a reminder that we must never forget the past and work towards a better future. We must also remember the resilience of those who survived and honor the memory of those who did not.
Let us also acknowledge the ongoing struggles faced by the Armenian community today. They continue to fight for recognition of the genocide and justice for those who were lost.
Today Turkey continues to deny that this event occurred and continue to oppress the people of #Artsakh with death threats if they do not leave their land. Ironically Israel also denies the Armenian Genocide. In both cases, it is purely political.
Let us work towards a future where such tragedies do not occur, where diversity and inclusivity are celebrated, and where all people are treated with dignity and respect.
Let us build future generations of people who have the strength to acknowledge the wrongs of their ancestors, and responsibly choose to be better and do better - not for political or financial gain, but because it is the right thing to do.
May the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide and the Holocaust be a blessing, and may we never forget their legacy.
