If habit change is too hard - you're doing it wrong.
Want to know how I made quitting smoking the easiest habit to change?
As is often the case, the answer is quite simple.
1. It MUST be Personal
If your habit change is driven by what other people tell you or encourage you to do, it won't last.
You need intrinsic motivation.
Own your decision, own your actions. own your identity.
Align it with the identity you are creating for yourself.
Be the person you want to become tomorrow, today.
2. Multiple compelling reasons.
Make the habit change have a positive impact across multiple areas of your life like mental health, family time, work productivity, etc.
Quitting smoking for me had an obvious impact on my physical health but it also helped me psychologically with impulse control and patience.
Connect the dots to why it matters, to YOU, to-DAY.
3. Less is more
Sometimes the biggest impact you can have is by actually doing less of something rather than more.
In my situation, the act of smoking takes time, money, and effort. Quitting smoking definitely had a 10x greater impact on my health than going to the gym for several months.
It also helped save some $$$ and actually got me a few hours of time back to my day.
Triple win.
BOOM!
